| The following contradiction has always perplexed me: Frequently, I hear

| parenthood; when questioned only seconds later, however, they insist that

| How do we resolve this apparant contradiction?
You forgot one possible explanation: parenthood is a mixture of
burdens and restrictions on the one hand and joys and unique
experiences on the other. To take a trivial example, in the last two
years i've really missed being able to decide for myself when to get
up on the weekends. But if my son had never been born, i would have
never known how sweet it was to wake up to the sound of a little boy
singing to the sunbeams.
Many parents really do find that, all in all, the positive aspects of
parenthood more than make up for the negatives. But it's easier to
talk about the negative aspects, because the positive aspects are so
personal.
