  This may be inappropriate for this group, considering its evolving
nature, but I shall press on nevertheless:

  I was wondering if this group was going to discuss issues relating
to being single in N.E. and _liking_ it? I have been single, am still
single, and would prefer to remain single. It's not that I don't want
any long-term meaningful _relationships_, it's just that I find
long-term, meaninful _friendships_ much more rewarding. This attitude
may change, of course, but currently it remains emotionally healthy
for me. [Note: I realize, of course, that statements like this are extremely
vague, but for the sake of brevity I will not elaborate further. I
would be willing to discuss it at length if this group evolves into the right
medium for it.]

  Does anybody else share these sentiments and would like to share? Or should
topics like this be segmented off to another group (although, you have to
admit, a group called "ne.singles" does leave a wide wake behind it).

The sorts of things Paul wants to discuss seem to be entirely 
appropriate to this group.  Otherwise it wouldn't
be much better than the personals column.  But this medium is an 
excellent tool for conversation, discussion, musing, etc.  And we all
have our philosophies on our single state, so we might as well talk
about them, here.

In my opinion, they are equally rewarding.  And good "partner" 
relationships are more sparse, in my experience, than good non-sexual 
ones.  Please excuse my awkward adjectives - the diction is a bit tricky 
in this subject area.
