Tornado Safety Query

Hi,

What kind of safety drill would one make if staying in an Apartment
Complex. The Apt. Complexes are shared by all and the only place
where one could go in a Tornado Warning is the Laundry Roon on the
lowest floor or maybe, the corridor on the lowest floor. Is that
considered safe enough in case of Tornado Warnings ? How strong are
the Apt. structures, if made by brick, in case of tornadoes ?

Thanks

Shekhoo

I stay in Minneapolis and I am new to the US (came in June '97). I have
not seen this kind of terrifying storms anywhere in the world, even the
Typhoons in KingKong didn't scare me as much as the lightning and the
news about tornadoes.

Hi fromtornado alley,
We in Texas have lived with the exciting and deadly tornados since we were
born. I lost a cousin to one three years ago. He was in a mobile home, tornado
bait, on the family farm, when it was hit.

The best place is on the lowest floor, in the inner most section, get in
between a door jam or a something that has substaintial framing. A closet for
instance. You are being very smart thinking ahead, that is the mostimportant
thing you can do, have a plan.

The odds of being hit are very, very high so don't obsess on it ok?
Jim

Probably not worse in Salt Lake City or several others.

i don't think minnesota is really tornado country. you go in more for
blizzards. don't worry too much though. while inch for inch, a
tornado is the most destructive force in nature. its effect is very
localized. your neighbors house could be leveled and yours not
touched. also, as i said, the storm announces its aproach with a
deafening roar like a freight train. you know it is coming.
