UUCP alarm messages - need help

system 'mot' at Motorola Microsystems has successfully been on-net
for some time. now that i'm at MCSI (well, still Four Phase for
another week), been trying to get news here. however, we're having
real reliablity problems with UUCP transmissions. frequently,
the UUCP transmissions to/from 'mot' to 'ningaubl' start off fine,
but then we start getting a series of "alarm" messages.
occasionally, there is a little traffic between alarms, but mostly
when they start we know it's the kiss of death for the session.
help! much obliged!
