Some time ago, somebody asked either here or in fa.vax about reading the hidden
first record bytes of existing files with Fortran carriage control when opened
from VAX/11 C. Somebody (maybe two people?) replied to the net telling of an
undocumented option to either open() or fopen() (I'm not sure which) that
would allow this. I filed this away and promptly lost it. Now, I need to do
this, and would very much appreciate it if somebody would please either mail
the answer to me or repost it to the net. Thanks very much. (uucp address
