The cvtuaf problem is that it is belching on device names with embedded $ or
other special characters.  While it ought to be possible to get
TWG to fix this in the mean time make sure that there a device names in /dev and
/ which are <=14 characters long, all lower case letters and digits, which 
translate as logical names into the real devices on which accounts reside.
