Anybody trashing diskettes in ST Basic?

I have been working on a binary file ENCODE/DECODE package in ST Basic. The
language seems quite adequate, but I've been having a problem with my A: disk
drive. The disk seems to startup real slow and sometimes produces errors
(which Basic seems to ignore). Since it seems to occur only when I've been
running Basic (but I've done that a lot recently since I just got it), I don't
know whether I have a problem with the drive itself (a DS/DD drive which I'm
booting the system from) or whether Basic is trashing something which affects
access to the drive. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

By the way, the ENCODE.BAS program is completed and I have tested the internal
routines for DECODE. The program is similar to Unix's uuencode/uudecode but
provides for a line by line checksum. Multiple files can be encoded into a
single text file. I should probably finish a working first version this
weekend. I'll post it when I get decode finished.
