Tomorrow is the day the K-Mart is meant to start selling ST's. I was all set to get my ST, and then hesitated because of being forced to choose colour OR high res. The problem is: when the ST boots, it checks to see if it is using a color monitor. If it is, then the ability to enter high-res mode is disabled. This annoys me. Even if the figures are going to be blurry, I would like to be able to use that mode. Part 2 of the problem is that I feel that one of the ST's big advantages over the MAC is that it is a colour machine. But, I can't have both. Even if I did buy both the colour and monochrome monitors, I can't have both of them plugged in at once. I have to choose one or the other. Do I have all this informatation correct????? A possible solution is/are the K-Mart ST's. From what I hear, they are going to also include an RF modulator. The crux of the matter is: Will they also include all the hardware and connections to drive the monitors? If this is so, then I can buy my K-Mart ST, plug in my colour TV, and buy the 70Hz monochrome that looks so wonderful. I get the best of everything. So, as soon as somebody actually sees one of these beasties, or has an idea as to its capabilities, could you please post it to the net? Thanks, Warren Long University of Saskatchewan CANADA

Given an RF modulator output, it isn't too hard to add a composite output (which is basically the signal fed to the RF modulator input). Making your own RGB signal is probably also possible, but requires much more thought/design effort. If anybody needs engineering assistance on this, I can probably talk a friend of mine (who is a video expert) into helping out. -John Sangster jhs at mitre-bedford.arpa

This won't work because the frame and scanline frequencies are totally different. Your TV uses 60 Hz frame frequency, while the monochrome monitor has 70 Hz. This is only a small difference, but the difference in the scan line frequencies is too big. In monochrome mode, the scan line frequency is about twice as high as in color mode. So, you get one or the other, but not both at the same time. I would highly recommend the monochrome monitor, it is much better than everything I have seen before in this price range. The color mode is not too hot, I could not work more than one hour in front of the screen... And your TV will probably be worse than our color monitor, which means that you are forced to use low resolution if you want to decipher text on the screen.
