I once heard a story about a couple who had a pet door for their cat.
One very cold morning, they woke up to find the familiar lump
cuddled up under the blankets on the foot of the bed; assuming it
was their cat, they got up as usual, got dressed, etc. and when they
went to make the bed, a full-grown raccoon crawled out from under
the blanket and nonchalantly waddled back out through the pet door.

We had a large dog door in our house. The only time that another animal entered was a hungry neighbor's dog.
