I don't know if tapping the horn at six or seven in the morning is such a hot idea, but cats really do like to sleep up there... I left for work one morning in my '73 Celica, drove for about five miles at speeds up to around 65 MPH, and noticed a howling noise from the front of the car. I had just bought the car (used) it really annoyed me that the front bearings were probably going out. I slowed down a bit and continued on. Another three miles, and the howling got louder, so I stopped for a minute and checked the front wheels for play. Eveything seemed OK so I went on in to work (another 5 miles). The front end continued to howl on and off. WHen I got to work and parked, I got out of the car and there was my cat, sitting next to the car with streaks of grease all down it's back! He had survived the journey sitting on the starter motor or the right motor mount, anwhere else would have been fatal. - Dave (hates cats) Pellerin

I heartily agree: if you have cold nights and loose cats, USE THAT HORN!!! When i was a kid, a neighborhood mother didn't and it cost a cat her leg (not to mention a new fan belt...) Dan'l Danehy-Oakes
Strange Problem With Lynx

Recently, I have had an unusual problem with my Lynx. When I was
returning from Syarcuse after picking it up from a garage (broken windshield,
long story, don't ask) the engine light would come on when I removed my
foot from the accelerator when preparing to stop. Then engine did not
actually stall, but the engine speed was really low. Upping the idle speed
had no effect on the light and I didn't notice a great difference in engine
speed. I have few instruments, mostly idiot lights, so I judge by sound.
What is even more strange, is that after a day or two back in Rochester,
the problem seemingly disappeared, only to reappear a week later. I do
not know of any defects in the '82 model, but there is definitely something
wrong. By the way, I bought the car over the summer and it has close to
90,000 miles on it. One of my friends seems to think it is the vacuum
advance, but I'm not sure that is the problem. One thing I forgot to
mention; the light has come on both when the engine was cold and when
it was hot so the problem is most likely not temperature related.
Any suggestions as to the cause(s) of the problem or reports of similar
experiences are greatly appreciated.

P.S. Any recommendations for a good used car? I am thinking of trading
this summer. What about late 70's or early 80's Celica's?
I am thinking primarily of a smaller car, but not a compact
if possible. Thanks again.
