Can anyone supply information on the Flanders family, of Posen (in
Poland, now called Poznan), New York City, Chicago, or Charleston?
My mother's father, William Flanders, whose parents emigrated from
Posen was raised in Charleston in the late 19th century and then
moved to NYC. He had several brothers, one of whom moved to Chicago.
The name may not have been Flanders originally, since that's not a
typically Jewish name. On the other hand, I've come across a Zvi
Flanders (I don't know if he's related) and I've heard (from a not
necessarily reliable source) that there are Jewish families in Posen
named Flanders. Any help or pointers to help would be appreciated.
