Though the bug has been fixed in trn, Pete Holsberg asks "how is a thread determined?" In the listing of messages, each thread has an access letter, then a series of topics and messages for that thread. Usually there is one topic, but sometimes (with the old bug) more than one for a particular access letter. Now, when one starts a new topic, it gets a separate access letter, and hence a separate thread. With the old system, you couldn't easily read the changed topic material--you had to read the entire thread's new stuff (unless you wanted to get fancy with commands); now you can. That's the advantage--spin-off topics are given a life of their own. The disadvantage (a trivial one to me) is that the spin-off topics are no longer hooked to the topic from which they're spun off, as I understand the way trn works.
