I'm no expert ready to refute logical flaws in your explanation, but I've got
to say that there must be more to it than your explanation covers. I have two
different shareware programs (both registered for those who read my comments
in the Telix argument <G>) which have Win16 and Win32s implementations.
They are PixFolio, an image catalog program and WinZip, which everyone knows
about. Running under WFW3.11, both programs are significantly faster in their
32-bit versions than they are in their 16-bit versions. (This is
particularly obvious in decoding a JPG picture in PF and in unzipping a
large archive in WZ.) So it is apparent to me, from empirical observation,
that using 32-bit code on a 16-bit OS must have the potential to be faster in
spite of the thunking issue. Try it (both are available on CICA), you'll see
for yourself.
