>If you are running only 32bit programs this would be right. If you wanted >to use only 32bit you would probably want to run NT or Windows 95. Most of >the other programs run by people when running Mosiac are 16 bit programs. >Understand? I don't. :-) No. The 32-bit program runs in 32-bit mode, I believe. If it does most of its work in 32-bit mode, with say only 10% of its work making calls (through thunking) to 16-bit code, you will see a significant performance gain. If however, the program is very simple and mostly uses calls into 16-bit libraries, you will see a performance loss. It depends on the program. How complex is Mosiac? I don't know. >Point is that having both a 16bit and 32bit programs is beneficial to most >users. One of the main reasons to be 32bit is for the multithreading which >is a mute point in 16bit Windows. Generally, and I stress that word, a >16bit program will be more beneficial to a Windows environment. Yes and no. Yes, if memory is the concern. Yes, if the program is mostly calls into 16-bit code. However, no if the extra memory isn't a problem and if the program does a lot of its own work. Also, 32-bit code is beneficial to NT/Chicago beta users. But this is not the normal Windows user. Sincerely, Brian
