Can some tell me what causes error messages of the form shown below in
INN?

Jan 11 09:57:47 carbon innd: ME cant update_active talk.politics.misc
Jan 11 09:58:15 carbon innd: ME cant update_active soc.motss

Also, I moved my news partition some time ago to a new device.  I then
nfs mounted the new location on the old so that from a software
standpoint the path to the news articles remains unchanged.  Ever
since then I regularly get error messages of the form 

Jan 11 09:30:37 carbon innd: ME cant symlink /usr/local/news/alt/politics/clinton/23120 and talk/politics/misc/99999 File exists

I know that this can happen as a result of doing something like tar to
copy news and thereby splitting cross-posted articles.  This does not
seem to be the problem, however, as all articles that existed at the
time of the move should have long since expired.  Is there some
problem with my configuration relative to INN?  Is there a known bug
in INN?  I have not installed any of the INN patches as everyting
seemed to be working fine (and I haven't had the time); however, if
one of the patches fixes this bug, I will go off and install them.
