I don't think this has been mentioned before. If it has, please excuse
me.

There can easily be a difference between "location/culture of
organisation" and "location/culture of writer".

My company is a case in point: our interconnection between the
Internet and our internal network is in Sweden. Therefore,
Organisation in the header says (I hope) "S-E-Banken, Sweden".

When we get all the problems sorted out, the author of a note could
just as easily be sitting in Tokyo, New York or London, but the tests
will still be reaching the Internet via the Stockholm gateway.

I know that the Ericsson telephone company already has this situation:
Their Texas people are attached to the Internet via the Stockholm
gateway.

Therefore I submit that the signature has a valid place in informaing
about a writer's background.
