Killfiles

Is there a newsgroup where I can learn more about killfiles?

Or perhaps someone here can help me. Assuming I'm in my killfile and know
how to type, how do I set things up to kill all posts authored by "Serdar
Argic"?

The relevant line in mine reads:

/Serdar Argic/h:j

which kills all articles with his name anywhere in the header. If you
are really feeling unfriendly, change the "h" to "a" to kill all articles
which even mention him (although this will take a bit longer at startup).

For those who *do* use the "a" modifier (and therefore didn't see the
above article), it is sometimes useful to have the same entry without
this modifier first. That is, do two or all three of:

	/name of poster/:j
	/name of poster/h:j
	/name of poster/a:j

Due to the time taken to do the "a" searches, this can result in a
noticeable time saving.

I also recommend doing :=:j rather than :j, by way of confirmation that
you're killing something that looks relevant, at least when using the
"h" and "a" modifiers.

Does this work with 'nn' or 'rn' ?.
I guess it's time for me to read man pages, ugh :-(

Always a good idea, but here is what I use in my init file for nn:

:!n=:Serdar Argic

Works for rn. I was waiting to test the following line in the killfile
when I noticed that nothing got killed because someone else seems
to be doing a cancel for everyone of us!

/^Path:.*anatolia/h:=:j

I just did that one better. Since all hist postings follow the
path "...!anatolia.mn.org!zuma!serdar", I just informed my feed
to change my sys file entry to look like:

	golem/anatolia.mn.org:to.golem,\
		...

Now they won't even take up my disk space (and if Ed catches
on, he might pass the request upstream).

My favourite for such people is

/Serdar Argic/h:,

(in trn), which kills the tree from the point where the person responded.
This doesn't work quite so well in this case, because his postings are so
content-free that people don't normally follow up, but it's still useful.

Thank you Henry.

Well, SA, I'd like you to note that of all the 2 million people on
USENET, you're the only one who's pissed me off enough to get into my
killfile in 3 or 4 years. So yours are the only posts I won't get to
read, so yours is the only point of view I won't see. And it has
nothing to do with your point of view.

Which achieves exactly the opposite of what you can have wanted.

What a jerk. Maybe you'll find out that *QUALITY* rather that
*QUANTITIY* and/or insult level is what is needed to put across your
point of view.

"Serdar Argic", you think you're hot stuff, right? You think you've got
the entire net on the run from your AI-produced idiocy? Buddy, you
haven't BEGUN to touch on the track record of grep-produced followups the
ALL-TIME CHAMPION holds.

I'll be impressed when "Serdar Argic" takes on KIBO and comes out
standing. Not that it'll ever happen, of course. "Serdar Argic" is too
GUTLESS to fight.

That's nothing. Did you know that he's never been seen in the same room
as Nels0n 0TBIFF (aka N0TBIFF) at the same time? Kind of makes you wonder.
