Dear Sirs, I would like to address some questions about the use of Internet. Our publishing company is a NON PROFIT organization and belongs to Temple University, Philadelphia PA. I would like to know if due to the nature of our organizatio(non-profit) we would be able to promote our publications in the internet by posting our releases to different newsgroups(according to the area of interest always) or by posting part of our sales brochures and/or catalog or even accepting e-mail orders. The Computer Services Dept of the University has already accepted and granted us with an account under the name of our company. Your prompt answer would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely George D. Dimitoglou Systems Administrator Temple University Press

I would say NO. Most people who read groups want to read discusions.
I wouldn't want to see ads for every university press and other non-profit
organizations in the groups I read.
There would be nothing wrong if you actually _read_ the groups and
commented when a book you publish might be useful.
Look at the way Silicon Graphics deals with comp.sys.sgi.* They don't
officially use the groups, but they certainly have enough people read
them.

If you are going to make postings like this, do it once only, and make it more informational than sales: look at the O'Reilly postings that occasionally are posting: the books are relevant to the newsgroup(s), the postings are short (less than 100 lines) and relevant (no sales-speak). -- Ken Bibb "And something is cracking, I don't know where kbibb@qualcomm.com Ice on the sidewalk, Brittle branches in the air" jester@crash.cts.com --"Cracking", Suzanne Vega
