I have just installed C-news and nntp on a sparc 2 with SunOs 4.1.2.
When we post news items, the From: line is correct (eg. rosi@george.ucnv.edu.au) but the Sender: line which is used for mail replies, leaves out the hostname (eg. rosi@ucnv.edu.au). Using email (not news) our return address is correctly generated. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong in the Cnews set up?
[I notice under Bnews, we have no Sender: address generated!?]
Also, while I have your attention, and since the documentation is so obscure, scattered and incomplete can you please advise:
1. What unpacks news items out of the in.coming area into the spool directories?- is it nntp file 'newsrun'? - if so, what do the following errors mean?
'c7decode: Bad data'
'stdin: not in compressed format'
2. How does Cnews expire work? Is it like Bnews expire?
3. What's with rnews - is it just a link from inews?
I would appreciate email replies where possible as I sometimes miss news postings. Thanks in advance for any time you may take in helping me out here.
