A note from the moderator regarding the following newsgroups: ba.announce comp.newprod comp.sys.sun.announce news.admin.technical rec.arts.sf.announce Due to excessively high spam volumes from UUNET news servers, the Usenet de- spammers have placed a Usenet Death Penalty (UDP) on UUNET. All articles originating at UUNET are being cancelled. Since these groups are moderated from UUNET and the articles are posted there, this means that until the UDP is lifted, these groups are effectively defunct. On a related note, the amount of spam in the newsgroup submissions has gotten too high. I am now receiving more spam than acceptable submissions on all groups. As a result, it now takes me much longer to find and approve the real postings than it did even two months ago, and so the rate at which I move submissions through has slowed down. To complain to UUNET about their spam problem, contact 'abuse@uu.net'. For general information about spam, see <URL:http://spam.abuse.net/spam/>. For information on the Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial E-mail (CAUCE), a group formed to outlaw spam, see <URL:http://www.cauce.org>.
