I note with this interest that your article was *not* posted to
rec.music.makers.synth, which means that it may have very easily missed
a significant number of interested parties.

In article <1992Nov10.203619.15086@jato.jpl.nasa.gov> dave@jato.jpl.nasa.gov writes:

Like so many of the other arguments you have proposed, this one is
highly specious, and can largely be refuted by resorting to the facts.

With respect to point #1: Demonstrate this. Which people left because
of the name change? (This should not include people who have left because
of your incessant attempts to discredit a correcty-run voting process.)
Despite numerous requests for this information, you have declined to
provide it, to date. Will you do so now?

With respect to point #2: One of the gateways is to your BBS; despite
multiple offers of qualified help, some of which explained the process
in copious detail, you have refused to implement this change. That is
*not* the direct result of the name change, that is the direct result
of your unwillingness to accept it. Another one of the gateways is
that which connected rec.music.synth to the SYNTH-L mailing list;
that gateway has been disconnected by the choice of Joseph D. McMahon
(see enclosed note below). Again, multiple offers of help were
extended to make the requisite 7-character change at the gateway
point; those offers were, as best as I am aware, declined.

With respect to point #3: The only people who have "admitted in this
thread that the voter population was skewed unfairly" are those people
who agree with you that such was the case. There are plenty of other
people who do not admit this (including me). The fact that some people
claim this is the case does not make it so; and you have not produced
numerical proof that it was so, despite numerous requests for it.

I'm sorry, but at this point all three points are simply claims made
without proof. I have provided proof for each point that I have been
queried on; will you provide similar verifiable proof for the points
that you have been queried on?

to terminate the gateway to SYNTH-L.

| It really saddens me to see Dave Hayes spending so much time fighting for a
| lost cause. Worse, I'm sure many have stopped reading r.m.s simply because
| there's too much noise here. I think that there were probably readers who
| didn't reailze that non-readers would be voting on the change of the newsgroup;
| I did remark the lack of discussion. It's done. Let's move on.
|
| To the meat of the matter. I have because of reasons of my own decided
| that I can no longer spend time in maintaining the gateway between the
| SYNTH-L mailing list and the rec.music.synth/rec.music.makers.synth/
| alt.rms.flamage newsgroup. If there is someone who is willing to grasp
| the torch as it falls from my fingers, please write to me at the address
| below; I will pass on the current membership list from SYNTH-L for you
| to use in establishing a new gateway.
|
| I am utterly serious about this. The link incoming goes away at 1 AM. The
| link going out to r.m.s is already gone.
|
| I hope that there will be someone willing to make the effort to help
| those who are not lucky enough to have Usenet access. If not, it's
| not as if it's going to kill anybody.
