EUnet Offers Free UUCP Maps Service
EUnet is announcing an open, no-charge UUCP maps service provided
on request to any UUCP network in Europe. This service is
designed to help UUCP nets work smoothly and reliably, with effi-
cient and coordinated routing.
The Service:
The service is open to all UUCP nets in all countries where EUnet
operates a backbone: nearly every country in Europe. Interested
UUCP network operators should contact the EUnet backbone in the
country in which they operate.
All maps will follow the general syntax requirements for UUCP
maps.
Maps will reside at EUnet national backbone sites and will au-
tomatically become part of the EUnet maps exchange system.
Participating UUCP networks will be expected to maintain the
currency of their UUCP maps entries. EUnet will provide the ser-
vice of checking maps for errors, and return them for correction
to the participating network.
Coordination at the European level will be provided by EUnet
technical operations staff at CWI in Amsterdam.
General Guidelines and Caveats:
Listing Links
Our offer of this service does not automatically give other nets
permission to list links to EUnet sites. For permission to list
links, please contact the EUnet backbone in the country in which
your network operates.
Responsible Routing and Transit Traffic
To protect other networks, routing information between two sites
or nets that causes unwanted transit traffic to some third party
nets will be removed upon request by the third party; the origi-
nator of the routing information will be notified immediately so
that they can make corrections. Please note also that this ser-
vice does not automatically permit other nets to use EUnet for
transit traffic. We are open to this, but only by specific
agreement with other interested networks.
and.....
Please contact your national EUnet backbone for details on using
this service for your network.
We encourage other UUCP networks to join us in sharing resources
(leased lines, for example). Any opportunity we take to share
resources will advance networking overall.
