Hi Folks, We have been running Cnews at our site for apporximately 2 years with little or no problems. Now are having the following problem with the news expiration. We recently removed a newsfeed from our sys file. Next we deleted the special newsgroups sent by that site (all americast.* or nptn.*) using the "delgroup" program provided with Cnews and then removed the leftover articles and directories down the /var/spool/news tree using rm. Now doexpire complains that these newsgroups are not covered in the "control file", which would appears to be expire file, explist. We have been able to force expire to run by adding these hierarchies back to explist, but this is clearly not the right way to proceed. Has anyone seen this problem before or does anyone have any ideas? The right way to proceed is to have a catch-all entry, such as
all x 7 -
at the end of explist, so *any* group not otherwise explicitly mentioned
is nevertheless dealt with properly.
The defunct groups are not gone from your system, for expiry purposes,
until the last history-file entry mentioning them is gone. That can take
a while. Deleting the files doesn't delete their history lines.
