Need help on stoping server for a week??

Our news server is going down since last few weeks. We are using Sun 4/260
for our news server, mail server, NIS server; which has 16M memory and
50M swap space.

Before it was going down couple of times a week, now it is going down 
almost every day (yesterday it went down twice). When I reboot the
system , since it was down for all night it works very hard. I can see
the LED and disk crunching constantly for many hour to catch up.

Then poor machine can't keep up and dies again. We did all the hardware
testing to find out is anything wrong. Everything seems OK. I want to stop
news server for few days and let every thing running. Just to find out 
is News is causing too much traffic
. 

I like to know how do I let all the feed server know about this. Do I 
send individual email to each server or something else I can do?
