Is the performance release stable?

We are running Cnews of the DEC22,199x variant (the last release
before the performance release) and I wanted to find out a couple
of things about the performance release of Cnews:

   1) I vaugely remember the first performance-release patch
stating that it was the first "part" of the performance
release and that the second part would come a couple of
	months later.

Did this second "part" ever get released?

   2) Is the current performance release of Cnews as stable as
the version I am now running? (i.e. should I upgrade?)

					thanks!

I think your memory is playing tricks on you... :-) The Performance Release
was never a two-parter. It was meant as an intermediate step to what we've
been calling the Cleanup Release, which hasn't happened yet.

There has been no re-release of the Performance Release (I've talked about
doing one, but haven't found the time yet). The software is stable and
works well, but there are some rough edges in building and installation.

One that happened to me is this: the perf release comes with an inews that
offloads some processing to a script called injnews. Using this inews
silently failed for me -- nntpd would say that an article was successfully
posted, but inews would log some sort of a cat error. I slapped in the inews
from the previous release and it seems to be working just fine.

Oddly enough, the README says something like "most of inews is written in C now",
but I found only the script.
