Why can't I e-mail from out of NN 6.4?

Hello All, I am running NN 6.4 on serveral machines. The news portion is working quite well, but e-mailing from inside of news is not. What I mean by this is, that if you are viewing an article and you hit "m" to mail it, everything looks fine, but submit chokes on the file. It seems that there is not enought of a mail header for submit to process. In fact, only the "To:" and "Subject:" mail headers are being set by nn 6.4. I am using "MMDF" under SCO, and I'm not sure the submit is the right program to be calling. Either that or I need to figure out how to generate a better mail header in order to fix the problem. So which is it? Do I need to run some other program and not submit (Don't say sendmail), or is there a place I can define outbound e-mail headers so that submit will work? -- The Golden Gryphon gryphon@openage.COM Of all the things in my life I miss on a daily basis, I think my wife, my mind, and my freedom are the top three. We run SCO ODT 3.0, tin1.22, and news 2/93... is works OK What kind of outbound route do you use/ UUCP or interactive? I really like tin, you might consider trying it... -Jim -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Jim Lill- Vector Board BBS jpll@vectorbd.com 716-544-1863/2645 wa2zkd@wb2psi.#wny.ny.usa.na GEnie: ZKD

There is a little 20 line script called recmail that inserts the "FROM:" line in the mail header and then sends the whole mess to submit. I will be happy to pass it on, if anyone else needs it. -- The Golden Gryphon gryphon@openage.COM Of all the things in my life I miss on a daily basis, I think my wife, my mind, and my freedom are the top three. I set up NN6.4 with NOV extensions here and had the same problem...
I defined config.h to have a #define REC_MAIL /usr/local/bin/nnsubmit
instead of submit and created the following...
---Cut here---
:
# /usr/local/bin/nnsubmit
# Cludge shell script to get nn 6.4 to work with MMDF under SCO 3.2.4.2
# nn does not provide a From: line when it generates a mail message
# hence /usr/mmdf/bin/submit fails with message
# no author specification present
# Hence... we generate a From: line at the from of the message ourselves

hname=`hostname`
user=`id|awk ' { pos1=index($0,"(")+1
pos2=index($0,")")-pos1
print substr($0,pos1,pos2) }'`
fromaddr="From: $user@$hname"
(
echo $fromaddr
cat -
)| /usr/mmdf/bin/submit -mlrxto
exit 0
---Cut here---
Hope this helps
