They may be on =>BITNET, and I know that several of their computer folk have accounts on =>pilot.njin.net. = =A network? Nothing. But not teaching or using UNIX in a business college that =avows to prepare it's students to compete in the real world does have =something to do with it. It is simply a matter of educational institutions =knowing more about what a students needs than the business world he expects to =earn his living in. Whoops! You got it backwards, friend. It's the community colleges (see below) that are supposed to be vocationally-oriented, not the universities. =Student accounts at Rider simply do not exist as they do at most credible =Universities. Around 5 years ago AT&T donated extensive equipment to Rider =that was promised to incoming students for interaction with the world. This =was later not deemed necessary due to the nature of what was 'really' =important: to teach Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect on a dos lan. I don't know much about what goeson at Rider, but the surveys that our Data Processing people do with employers in the county through the industrial members of the DP advisory commission at the college keep our DP curriculum producing exactly what local industries want: 1-2-3, WP, Word, Novell LAN, etc. We've offered UNIX and Shell Programming courses for a couple of years now. This is the first semester that the Intro To UNIX course was full. =Our educational systems do not just fall apart at the primary level. There is =also this gray area between a real University and all those others who only =pretend to teach at the secondary level. We "others" teach at the post-secondary level, Fred. ;-) Pete
