The scads of people leaving the Metro today looked as though the
Republicans had emptied their white suburbs and encouraged their party
faithful and other tourists et. al. to come down here to show solidarity
for the motorcade. It is a political event, and so have the last
several weeks been with all the Repubs in town to cheer on the Bushies
and make the Iraqi prison scandal disappear, and it looks as though they
have succeeded. First, we had the WW2 celebration for more an occasion
for more Bush-Cheney speeches, then Bush talks about the future of Iraq
on prime time TV, then Bushie goes to Europe, and George visits the
pope, then Tom Brokaw gets huge mileage for his new book and interviews
Bush, then Bush does Normandy, and now the funeral which has taken up
days and will take up some more. When are Dems going to be allowed to
take over the city, have parades, march, and speech making wihtout being
arrested. Repugs do not own patriotism. Here's hoping our day will
come, the first Tuesday in November. Been waiting for this for 4 years.
