wearing baggy pants probably does not cause drug use (at leat I am not aware of any studies that prove a connection). But I believe it safe to assume that emmulating the gang persona can lead to drugs and violence. It's not just the clothing, there is an attitude that goes along with it. If I am to believe that "that" style of clothing is the "gangsta" look, why should I not believe that along with the look comes the attitude? I am sure that there is a significant percentage of H.S. students dressing like that who have done nothing wrong. But that other percentage (and we have no way of knowing how big this % is) is out there doing their gang thing in a loud and violent way. It is unfortunate that we have come to the point where dress codes are designed to save lives, and metal detectors are a necessary evil to prevent weapons from entering the schools, but we can not deny that this is where we are. I have no problem what so ever with removing (one by one) civil liberties from the children in an effort to make up for the total lack of parenting skills being demonstrated by some parents. If my children wanted to dress like a gang member, I'd never allow it. If they came home with white sheets and a pointy white hat, it wouldn't make it two feet in the door. Same with a swat-sticka tattoo (excuse my spelling). When parents so miserably fail to install/instill/inject morals into their children, society has no other choice than to try to pick up the slack. And if that means telling kids not to dress like murderers, then so be it. It is a small price to pay for a death free school system.
