This is out of context in an argument for why Professor Raab believes Jews
are being assimilated into a heterogeneous America that lacks diversity.
He believes (or fears) it is irreversible, but nevertheless is a strong
advocate FOR diversity & against the cultureless absorption he sees
happening.

This is loony & I wonder where these lightweights found it all to cut &
paste. Peter Brimelo is of course a famous Arch Bigot & one of the most
active voices against the immigration of little brown people. His book
ALIEN NATION posits a future the opposite of the excessively heterogeneous
one that Earl Raab sees coming & deplores. Brimelo by contrast sees
niggers & gooks & spics overwhelming our borders & doing away with the
superior white race. ALIEN NATION promotes fear of the poor & underskilled
of other countries, & wants the "perverted" Immigration Act of 1965
overturned to stop yellow black & brown people from ruining America.
Brimelow's main point is that mostly Europeans immigrated when their
safeguards against niggers & chinks -- he would restore those safeguards
because it is no longer primarily Europeans who immigrate to America. He
advocates the restoration of the National Origin System by which only
people from countries the first American immigrants came from are
permitted (English, German, Dutch) excluding apparently Spain because he
worries overmuch about Spanish-speaking immigrants. In his own words,
America should accept "Basically the Northern and Western Europeans, fewer
from  Southern and Eastern Europe" & complains because the reality is "90
percent of the immigrants are from the Third World." He called the phrase
"Give me your tired, your poor as "staggeringly sentimental" &
inappropriate, for the main thing, he claims, is to maintain "an
ethnically race-specific society."

Oh, Brimelow's one big time bigot all righty. He is himself an immigrant,
but from the correct part of Europe. Asked how an immigrant could hate
immigration so venomously, he claims immigrants are better positioned than
the native-born to know what a danger immigration has become. He said of
ALIEN NATION, "The book stems from a cover story I did in National Review
in  about 1992, in which National Review basically broke with the
conservative  consensus that immigration was a good thing and more
immigration is a better  thing and so on. We started to ask questions
about it, and that really provoked  quite a civil war in the conservative
communities."  Brimelow's fellow conservatives, he admits, no longer
support him -- he is so far to the right of the right he calls liberal
immigration policies an error of conservatives! He claims that prior to
the 1965 law, "98% of immigration was Protestant." That's how he wishes it
had stayed! He's a real throw-back to days when to have voted a Kennedy
president -- a catholic, omigod! -- was regarded by the right as a fearful
& dangerous turn for America. Never mind Jews, even other Christians suck.

And the only reason he quotes Prof Raab out of context is because Raab was
part of actual research studies on issues of diversity & unlike Brimelo is
a credible source. And to misrepresent one's opponent's statistics is
really quite lovely because it is almost like saying, see, even Jews don't
like immigration, though go to Raab's own writings & you find the opposite
to be stated.

It's weird that these antisemites can never choose their proofs & targets
eloquently or correctly. Every race has a few fringe assholes (like Woods
& John Hardin for instance, surely not all WASPs are like them) & if one
looked really, really, really hard one might actually find some fringy
fruitcake Jew writing drivel comparable to what Brimelo has written. But
these klan-like rightwing bigots prefer to smear a decent sod like
Professor Raab, whose politics are progressively mainstream & hardly
radical. When he is off the beaten path it is when as a leading Jewish
voice in America he would criticize Israel for returning violence with
violence paving not a road to peace but further bitterness. It's hardly an
extreme point; in the present unfortunate climate, it is definitely a
progressive one.

He also advocates "Jewish alliances with non-Jews in the fight against
hate." Prof Raab's theories of racial harmony have annoyed many Israelites
who believe American Jews like Raab "muddy" the issues by including
non-Jews in his worldview of progressive political action & generous
communities interacting. That he would include even Moslems especially
annoys some. I doubt he would even exclude rubbishy bigots. But I'm sure
the likes of  Hardin & Wood above are quite worried that if Raab's vision
of HARMONIOUS diversity were ever achieved, the disharmonious might not be
able to keep their burger-flipping jobs without having to work alongside
some darky chink or yid. 

Professor Raab had long advocated such things as NOT striking back at
Palestinians every time a terrorist kills a Jew; Professor Raab believes
the US & Israeli "war on terrorism" is counterproductive in terms of human
life & future harmony. 

He has elsewhere criticized the radical assimilation of American Jews but
only for valuing Jewish culture (as he values all ethnic diversity in
America, perhaps even trailer trash culture such as Hardin & Woods above
have represented). 

The Hardin bigot-worship post seconded by Woods is just further proof of
what I see over & over again, to be a bigot requires someone to be
fundamentally ignorant. A intelligent sophist could make far better
arguments in favor of disgusting bigotry, but where's a sophist when you
need one.
