While I would not place all the blame at the feet of goverment, a good portion of the blame for our energy problems of the last two years (gasoline prices, electricity prices/shortages, natural gas prices/shortages) can be directed to the Clinton administration's total lack of an energy policy. Please tell me what is the "solution" the Clinton administration is ["was"] working on? I live in California. We have electricity problems here as well as a gas price increases. Everyone here wants to make PG&E and South CA Edison pay for everything that is going wrong with the market here. Just like on the national level. The federal and state government share the blame for our power crisis. CA Governor Davis is trying to work out something so he'll look like a hero - - but I want to know how it got this bad in the first place. I got my December PG&E bill today (service to 12/23). I used 10% less gas, and 13% less electricity than I did during the same billing cycle last year (and last year's Dec billing cycle was a day shorter). We put up no Christmas lights this year, and replaced several incandecent lights bulbs with flouresents (70% more efficient) last summer. I installed three more this month, for a total of 9 in the house now. We also cut back on the heat by replacing the broken timer thermostat and getting more agressive with the settings - 60 degrees at night, and during the day when we are gone. 68 in the morning an evening (7 hours total). Today's bill was 13% higher that the same cycle last year. PG&E is lobbying for a 40% increase in electric rates to recover wholesale costs. I can understand why they are asking for it.... but for the sake of my budget, I hope they don't get it. > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/
