Here ar some rules which investors shoulds follow if they want to be
succesfull in the market.
It is best to read this rules before you call your broker.

Don't buy in a hurry. One is almost always sorry next day.
Do not buy when excited. You have probably caught fever from the
crowd.
Don't buy because you have funds idle. Only buy because you think
shares are attractive.
Have no feelings; only reasons
Study your company before you buy.
Never regret not having bought.
Take a long view and not a traders view.
Never enter a market without stydying its internal technical
condition.
Rarely trust a succesful tipster. You will probably come at the peak
of his boom
Beware of abnormally high yields. They may signify dangers only known
to the directors.
If in doubt about selling, sell half.

Don't be afraid to be out of the market.

Trust your pessimism; mistrust your optimism. (But expect to feel
rather nervous when you buy.)
Try not to trade more than 12 times a year.
Don't fail to "rebalance" your portfolio repeatedly.
Do not, at any time in your life, fail to have a written list of the
dangers you see ahead in the general market, within three months.
Never average a "rubbishy"share.
Only borrow in the intermediate depressions.
Watch your rubbishy shares more carefully than the leader.
Try always to have cash in reserve.
If you cannot follow sound rules continously, do not speculate. Never
break a sound rule.
The wise investor aims to succeed by following his Rules - not the
Exceptions.
Don't get mad at your broker. Always forgive him.
Be brave and conceited enough positively to expect the crowd to be
wrong.
Always beware of too much "company".

Citation from the book When to buy by Justis Manis

Buy low, sell high
If you can't sell because you have to take a loss then you bought to
high.
