And I would suggest that this would be not a dream, but a bit of a
nightmare, as it would perpetuate "Linux-centrism" just as much as various
present "academies" perpetuate "Windows-centrism."

Almost any university with sufficient quality of faculty such that it can
support a computer science department will provide something of a "haven"
where UNIX is used.

Knowing how computers work and how algorithms are constructed and perhaps a
little math is valuable; it is far wiser to learn the principles of computer
science, with perhaps a number of OS implementations *including* Linux than
to restrict yourself to just the one system.

Some day Linux will be old and the architecture may be too rigid to cope
with new ideas.

It is good to be exposed to a number of systems, even including Windows, if
only to know how *not* to implement systems. And there are useful ideas in
some of the offbeat systems that may prove useful.

--> Prolog might prove important someday;
--> Lisp provides definite insights;
--> Functional programming suggests different ways of thinking;
--> Mainframes suggest some ideas on how I/O can work as well as the
handling of large databases;
--> The future might well come in the form of exokernels, or microkernels,
or something of the sort...

Exposure to these sorts of things would not be part of a "Linux Academy,"
and are nonetheless valuable.

Watch for a good university...
