Als je een functie hebt moet je een waarde retourneren dat doe je als volgt:
function getCount(catID)
   getCount = "select count(*) from table where catID = " & catID
end function

In dit geval geef je wel een string terug, en geen resultaat van je sql 
query.

Indien je geen waarde wil retourneren, gebruik dan een sub zoals dit:
sub getCount(catID)
    q = "select count(*) from table where catID = " & catID
end sub

Maar indien uw functie begint met get, zal het waarschijnlijk de bedoeling 
zijn om wel een waarde te retourneren.
