Ik heb nu aardig wat recensies gelezen en de boek heb ik me ooitns een keertje doorheen geworsteld. Vraag me niet hoe. Ben bijzonder tevreden weer:-) Heri, Icee. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0185183 Unbelievably bad May 10, 2000 Reviewer: A viewer from Dallas, Texas I was not expecting great cinema, but even my meager expectations were shattered. This movie was so bad that it defies explanation. The book wasn't great, but it certainly deserved better treatment than this - I thought JohnTravolta liked Hubbard! Bad acting and a script whose best feature was horrible dialogue were not saved by the special effects. Seriously, the effects were nice, but the suspension of disbelief required from this movie left many of the twelve-year-old audience members laughing aloud at the screening I saw. I went for free and still wish I hadn't seen it. Don't waste your time. Shameful May 3, 2000 Reviewer: A viewer from Atlanta, Georgia The plot was thin and tired. The special effects, while very expensive, were stolen from so many better Sci-fi genre films, they would be too numerous to list here. The acting was deplorable to such an extent that I found the CGI actors performances questionable. I predict a swift descent of John Travolta's career, the likes of which has not been seen since "Urban Cowboy". This movie if for people who thought "Independance Day" was too high brow. I saw this movie for free and I paid too much. Really, really awful.

"Meer science fiction in Scientology als Scientology in 'Battlefield Earth" :8) ======= http://www.al.com/movies/?/entertainment/ap/2000-05-12/revbattlefieldearth.html Logic and originality are alien to 'Battlefield Earth' By Stephen Whitty Newhouse News Service 5/12/2000 'Battlefield Earth' (PG-13) Warner Bros. (117 min.) Directed by Roger Christian. Stars John Travolta, Barry Pepper, Forest Whitaker. L. Ron Hubbard must have put an awful lot of thought into Scientology. Because judging by "Battlefield Earth," he didn't leave anything for his novels. .... Luckily, it's not only good things that come to an end in this world, and eventually "Battlefield Earth" winds down, too. Don't expect people to stop talking about it, though, even when it time-warps out of here. Since the project was announced, critics have been decrying it as Scientology-fi; like Travolta's otherworldly "Phenomenon," it's been denounced as pop-cultist propaganda. That's unfair. Actually, there's a lot more science fiction in Scientology than there is Scientology in "Battlefield Earth." And a lot more imagination. ====== Newsweek http://www.newsweek.com/nw-srv/tnw/today/as/mv/mv_b.htm#Battlefield%20Earth 'Battlefield Earth' (5/12/00) Directed by Roger Christian Starring John Travolta, Barry Pepper The second, and hopefully last, of John Travolta's Scientology movies, "Battlefield Earth," like "Phenomenon," is religious propaganda masquerading as sci-fi fun. A cross between "Independence Day" and "Mad Max," though not nearly as amusing as either . . . The message is that learning and mental clarity are the way to humanity's salvation; coincidentally, Scientology believes the same thing. Besides the scenery chomping from Travolta, who at times seems to be doing a Dr. Evil impersonation, there is nothing to recommend in this tedious, cheaply made dirge. The dialogue is inane, the acting wooden, and Roger Christian's directing choices are a lesson in sci-fi film clich. ====== -- Scientology & Dianetics Tax-exempt child abuse and neglect? http://www.b-org.demon.nl/scn/deaths/childabuse.html

Het is werkelijk een slachting. New York Times, CNN, ABC, CBS en nog 100+
publicaties zeggen dat de film troep is. Ik had wel kritiek verwacht op
het wanproduct "Battlefield Earht" van Scientology oprichter L. Ron
Hubbard, maar wat er nu allemaal loskomt. Dit is echt heel erg. Dit gaat
Scientology centen kosten omdat zij geld zouden verdiende aan de BE
speeltjes.
Ben
er trots op :-)

FILM REVIEW
`Battlefield Earth': Earth Capitulates in 9 Minutes to Mean
Entrepreneurs From Space
By ELVIS MITCHELL
Man is an endangered species," announces one of the titles at the
beginning of the sci-fi lump "Battlefield Earth." And after about 20
minutes of this amateurish picture, extinction doesn't seem like such a
bad idea. Sitting through it is like watching the most expensively
mounted high school play of all time. The film is stocked with evil
aliens who, in their padded body stockings, plastic armorlike fittings
and matted hair extensions, resemble nothing so much as members of
GWAR, the metal-rock parodists that Beavis and Butt-head loved. It may
be a bit early to make such judgments, but "Battlefield Earth" may well
turn out to be the worst movie of this century.

Memory fails to summon the name of a movie as ludicrous and
unintentionally funny as "Battlefield Earth," John Travolta's act of
career hubris in service to the late Scientology crackpot, L. Ron
Hubbard.

Worcester (MA) Telegram: `Battlefield Earth' a waste of time
http://www.telegram.com/features/time_out/battle.html
By Daniel M. Kimmel
(Worcester, MA) Telegram & Gazette Reviewer
"Battlefield Earth" is a very, very bad movie, and yet
there is a certain pleasure to be had watching it.
Realizing it is the worst movie of the year means that it
can only get better after this.
This movie is a career-wrecker along the lines of
legendary bombs such as "Ishtar" and "Showgirls." It will
be used to frighten young children and aspiring
filmmakers for a generation to come.

(CNN) -- Let's get one thing straight.
"Battlefield Earth" was only made because
John Travolta wanted it made. It's been his
baby from start to finish.
It's not a pretty baby.
There has been much speculation about this
film because it's based on a science-fiction
novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of
Scientology. Travolta has been a longtime
member of the sometimes-controversial
group. Some feared the film would contain
subliminal religious propaganda sending
thousands racing into the arms of the nearest
Scientologist.
Fear not! That stampede you'll hear will be
audiences racing to the box office for a
refund, because this attempt at a sci-fi action
epic fails on just about every count.

Travolta has said he has wanted to do this movie for a long time, not
because of Hubbards Scientology, but because his novel "is a great
piece of science fiction." Maybe so, but Battlefield Earth, is nowhere
near a great movie. In fact, its a pretty gruesome mess.

BATTLEFIELD EARTH review
BATTLEFIELD EARTH is that amazing turd in your toilet bowl. That log of
shit that has colors that you can't understand the reason for being
there. It also has a weird shape... it somehow resembles something
familiar. You almost want to take a picture of it to show friends late
at night, when the blinds are drawn and have a dirty filthy thing you
want to disgust someone with, but... you have this inate
curiousity... "Have you ever seen anything quite like this?"
Your friend will inevitably take a look and say, "Whoa, what a piece of
shit!"
