QUESTION: It has been said, that the sin of Sodom was that of
inhospitality toward the two strangers that visited them, and not
homosexuality. Is this right?
ANSWER: The sin of homosexuality is now out of the closet, and
they are seeking to twist the scriptures to justify it. This makes
their sin twice as bad.
A casual reading of the account of Gen 19: could never conclude
anything else by sodomy.
In Gen.18:20, we read, "And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom
and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, I
will go down now..." This all happened before the two visited
there, in Chapter 19: How then could it be their lack of
hospitality?
The context of Gen. 19: makes it clear that it was homosexuality.
V. 5 "...bring them out to us, that we may know them" Lot offered
them his virgin daughter, not to be hospitable, but for sexual
purposes. Lot was very hospitable to the two visitors, so there was
no lack on his part.
The Book of Jude makes it very clear that the sin of Sodom was
sexual immorality. Jude 1:7, "Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the
cities round about them in like manner, giving themselves over to
fornication, and going after strange (other, margin) flesh, are set
forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." 2
Peter 2:6 says, "....making them (Sodomite) and ensample unto
those that after should live ungodly."
There is forgiveness and deliverance for the homosexual. Such were
some of the Corinthians, but "now ye are washed.." 1 Cor. 6:9-11
There is no sin so great, but that the Lord Jesus died for it and
can save you from it. Turn to Him. He loved you and died for you.
