The Orleans Hotel and Casino is a new addition to the fast-growing
panoply of Las Vegas theme hotels. While it only gives one a faint
glimpse of life -- including nightlife -- in the Crescent City, there
are some things to recommend this place. Like the lounge, where
Rhythm & Blues and contemporary jazz bands alternate with real New
Orleans zydeco and Cajun acts -- I say real because most of the
musicians are authentic Cajuns, and play that authentic, hypnotic
bayou-born music dominated by accordian and "spoons".

There are also a number of excellent restaurants, including The French
Market Buffet which has excellent, authentic Louisiana Creole/Cajun
cuisine. In the different restaurants, one can sample delicacies like
crawfish etouffe and jambalaya -- mmmmmm-mmm! Red beans and rice, a
New Orleans staple, is also available.

And for Mardi Gras? "Throw me somethin', mista!" The cry goes up
all over the place for doubloons and beads of purple, gold, and green,
just like they throw of Carnival floats down in the Big Easy ever year.
