Read up on why marijuana was criminalized: to prevent the widespread
use of hemp to create paper and rope, which would have been a blow to
the Hearst and (I think) Dow Chemical empires.

These laws were NOT passed for the benefit of the majority of people.
There is no evidence that they had the support of the majority of the
people.  The sad truth is, our government often functions on a basis
of "one dollar, one vote".  This shouldn't be news.
