LOCAL CENSORSHIP

#169
From: Bob Allisat

The messages below were sent to me by
         some individual preporting to represent
         a community somewhere. They indicate
that two articles I wrote were cancelled
by that individual. By that they mean
a message in my name was sent out that
resulted in my words being erased on
         many computers world-wide.

I find this practice to be unethical &
repulsive. No-one can erase my words
         without my permission. The NewsGroups
I sent my message are UNMODERATED and
that means no-one controls the flow of
         information and discussion. Such article
         cancelations corrode the usefullness and
trustworthiness of UseNet and are to be
         aggressively challenged where-ever and
         whenever they are encountered.

                   Bob Allisat

PS... the articles that were canceled have been reposted.
Leave my words alone. I wrote them. Respect my authorship - BA

An article of yours was automatically cancelled by the sbay.* cancelbot.
If you believe this was in error, please contact cancelbot-admin@sbay.org.

The sbay.* newsgroups are chartered for local articles only. That means
articles in these newsgroups must be at least partly specific to the
South Bay/Silicon Valley Area of Northern California.

At the request of the sbay.* readership, there are policies against using the
sbay.* groups for: (these may be listed among the reason(s) for cancellation)

We remind you of your option to leave the sbay.* newsgroups out of any
broadcast you try to make. Please respect the wishes of our community.
Even better, we hope you'll respect the purpose of local-area newsgroups
and not use any others except those for the area you reside in, for
subjects relevant to them.

If you choose to post in the sbay.* groups, your article is subject to the
established rules. The cancelbot will inspect the headers and cancel your
article if they violate the published criteria. If you don't like these
rules, you may avoid the cancelbot by not posting in the sbay.* newsgroups.

Unresponsive repeat offenders may also be added to an auto-cancel list until
they agree to cooperate. Repeat offenders may also be reported in the
news.admin.net-abuse.announce newsgroup if any Big 8 newsgroups are involved.

The rules also apply if you responded to an inappropriate article and
inadvertently used the same excessive newsgroup list. You need to check the
newsgroups before posting because you're responsible for what you post.
However, if you were complaining about the article, be assured that it was
also automatically cancelled.
