Pennywise vs dollar wise

It has been over a week that about a million of Americans are still
without electricity. A similar kind of thing happens every winter and
at any other time when an event with a strong wind takes place. What
surprises me here is that everybody is taking it as something
unavoidalbe and nobody talks how to fix it. As a matter of fact, it is
very easy to fix it. All what is needed is that all electric
transmission lines be burried underground instead of hanging them on
the poles. Of course, it would much more expensive, but if you start
calculating how much it costs to repair all these electric lines,
after a storm, then in the long run, it will be cheaper to handle them
burried underground. And what is the cost of human misery having been
left in the cold in winter time? This is example of people unable to
do proper calculation and being penny wise rather dollar wise.

Another interesting thing, Obama now proposes huge spending bill and
there seems to be not a single word there about the need to burry the
electric lines underground. Have you noticed that whenever you have no
electricity, your telephone is still functioning. Do you know why?

It depends on where you live. Where I live, we have FiOS. The old copper
lines are being dug up and replaced with fiber. The fiber doesn't have it's
own power source, so if the power goes out you're on battery for maybe a
couple hours.

Only because you let them cut off your copper. Granted you have to
fight HARD to avoid it.

Verizontal is very two-faced re: leaving POTS on copper. Their Suits have
testified in the House that Oh No, We'd NEVER force anyone... but every
person I know getting it installed has hit a brick wall on keeping their
copper service.

There are ways to do so. Put FIOS in another name. Have Foreign Exchange
service. In some cases, burgler alarm service will forstall it.

the country. God knows they all came here illegally. They are nothing
but a bunch of drunken, brawling papists.
