Of all the dogs I've owned, my Doberman was the most gentle around
people. She was a therapy dog who visited the residents at a local
nursing home and had no problem with strangers petting, patting or
poking her.

From http://www.prairienet.org/cikc/dobie.html

"Basic Personality Traits: Dobermans are generally very intelligent
and can be trained easily with praise. They are usually loving with
friends and family, but require lots of regular attention and need to
learn their place in the pack or family at an early age. This breed is
not recommended as an outdoor dog."
