I saw a "great deal" for a Sharp in an ad from Exel. I called the Better
Business Bureau and learned that Exel "doesn't qualify for the highest
rating". I recommend this easy and often effective way of checking out a
mail order place. Another rule of thumb can be used as a means of
narrowing down the search: I studiously avoid places in New York City,
Southern California and especially Florida. I look first for outfits in
the Midwest (except Chicago area), Pacific Northwest, and New Hampshire.
Of course this is a gross generalisation and unfair to the honest firms
which do exist in NYC, So. CA, Florida and Chicago. But in 12 years of
dealings with mail order outlets, I've found a higher percentage of
honest outfits in the places mentioned above.
