I believe this subject was touched on a year or so ago- but here it goes again. Which transit systems out there maintain a historical fleet of buses (or even ONE old bus!). Here in Knoxville, TN- KAT rehabbed a 1957 GMC Old Look which sits pretty in the garage most of the time. KAT is trying to recover some of the old equipment, but it's a very costly venture. Where is New York City's historical bus fleet? NYC has a rich history of bus transportation (especially the wonderful New Look years of the 1960s- both GMC and Flxible). Any suggestions (other than the Transit Museum in Brooklyn which deals mostly with rail transportation)? How about the NYCDOT contractors like Queens Transit or Triboro Coach? I know that Green Bus Lines and Jamaica Bus Lines have gotten rid of their GMC's and Flxibles many years ago. How about the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose area? MUNI (San Francisco) used to have a load of GMC New Looks in the late eighties (perhaps even later?)- and I think Golden Gate Transit had some as well but not sure about AC Transit, SCCTA or SamTrans. Any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated! MIKE GALLANT gallant@utkux.utcc.utk.edu
