In Buffalo, standard practice is to have one inspector enter the car just before the doors close. The inspector checks for proof of payment (Metro Rail ticket, Metro Pass or transfer slip from a Metro Bus) as the train travels between stations. At the next station, he/she leaves the train, and boards the next train that stops there. Odds are one in three that you'll run into an inspector if you make the full South Campus to Theatre Place run. Fare evasion is only a very minor problem. If you don't have POP, you'll be issued a citation similar to a parking ticket. The fine is usually around $20, and supposedly little sympathy is shown to out-of-towners that don't know how the system works. -- Dan Tasman tasman@acsu.buffalo.edu http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~tasman/ UB School of Architecture and Planning http://www.arch.buffalo.edu/ +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | "I think that I shall never see a billboard lovely as a tree. | | indeed, unless the billboards fall, I'll never see a tree at all." | | Odgen Nash, Song of the Open Road | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+
