The reason for having WWW pages is to deliver information. So if the people who wish to access your page cannot get the information, it is not their fault. For example the pages I maintain is accessed by students. So I don't expect them to have the latest and best in terms of hardware. In fact I have quite a few still running win 3.1 OS. So I'd rather they get the information I need them to get than to say "Sorry, you have to buy a better computer to read the course notes". There are software and hardware limitations that web page designers or authors should be aware of. This is what separates the professionals from the wannabes. Quite a few novices forget that people who access their pages are often at the end of a 56k/33.6k/28.8k/14.4k (that is what I have at the moment)/etc modem. SO these novices put in huge graphics (or even try to load some audio or movie file)!!!! By placing limitations such as using non standard HTML, you are limiting the size of the audience. For some, that is ok. They know who their target audience are and know their audience can get to it. For others who have no idea what sort of machines their audience have, you have to ensure you are not cutting out a chunk of your market. FOr the people doing home pages for fun, that's no matter as it is only their friends who see it. For those designing for a company, they may start to question why they are paying you so much for not fulfilling the job - ie delivering the informatin to their customers.
