Why let Microsnot drive the implementation because : their aim is to monopolise/control the Internet. Yes I know. I use IBrowse on the Amiga. Unfortunately I wasn't satisfied with it's security features because I do a lot of credit card transactions over the net so *sigh* I bought a wintel box to use Netrape and Microsloth Exploder. I still don't like Windoze. : Or a machine that they can afford to buy. Schools and community : organisations come to mind. Well my heart bleeds for them but what do you want to do? I know! Maybe we all can write to Intel, Motorola, Sun, Digital, Microsoft, Apple etc... and ask them to STOP any research that might lead to better and faster processors and OS technologies so everybody can catch up? Dear Intel, I'm sick to fucking death of you releasing faster processors every week. No sooner had I plonked a 266PII into the box you release a 300, then 333, then a 400. I want you to stop it right now! : If we want to make the Internet accessible to all then it has to be : universal. That means supporting a variety of implementations and : platforms. Including older hardware which isn't necessarily obsolete, : just not the latest and greatest. Such hardware is quite cheap these : days and provides opportunities for people wanting a low cost entry to : the net. That's a noble cause but the implementation is another story. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be on the net because you got a crap box. If you want the net then you get it the way your machine delivers it. If you miss out on a few things then thats too bad. If can't view www gfx then you'll have to settle for lynx. If you've got no ppp you settle for a terminal screen. Technology waits for no one. : Who wants MS/Netscape bloatware? Is it absolutely necessary? Probably not but when you have huge hd and plenty of memory who cares? : (I thought the HTML standards were developed by some committee, not by : Microsoft) : Get a dose of realism mate. The majority of people out there couldn't : give a stuff what you think. But if your page does not work on their : systems you are going to get bad press. That means your page should : work on 640x480 and on non-Java systems. : >Why should advancing vendors waste time back-stepping : >to cater for people with obsolete technology? : Why should people be forced to fork out thousands more every couple of : years for the latest and greatest in hardware? Nobody is forcing them to. Some of use are power crazed for the fastest boxes some aren't. That's technological progress for you. You keep up or you get left behind. Bit like analogue mobile users. I mean why should they fork out hundreds of dollars for digital handset? - j.n. http://netspace.net.au/~nguyen/
