Sausage Software: the products

I am writing an article on the rise and fall (and rise again?) of
Sausage Software.

On the technical side, I am interested in any reports of experience
with Sausage's products (Hotdog html editor, 'snaglets' applications)
in their early days and today.

Was there enough merit in them to justify the early adulation of
Sausage? (I recall someone saying you may as well write raw html as
use Hotdog in its early versions).

Have they improved since? What strengths/weaknesses do they have
against rival products, for example Microsoft's Front Page?

Thanks for any input. You will not be identified in the article
unless you specifically agree to this.
