Without wanting to turn this into some sort of argument, I would disagree
with "notoriously broken". This system had stayed up for well over a year
anyway. I will admit that there are quite a few SunOS patches, and I keep
track of them. Most of the patches recently however, haven't been applicable
to luxor (in the sense that they fixed things that we didn't have problems
with, either because they weren't needed - eg patches for NFS, which luxor
doesn't have a large need for, or because the problems were avoided in
other ways - eg not using YP/NIS). The reason I rebuilt was because a patch
came out for a (security) problem I *was* concerned about.

With regard to (Un*x) OS's in general, I have much more problems with other
systems here (Ultrix and AIX) than I ever do with SunOS - and the security
holes in these (particulary AIX) are usually *gaping*. Another bugbear (while
I'm on the subject) is that at least Sun generally make patches publicly
available. Other manufacturers (DEC, IBM, [HP?]) only tell you about patches
after you've had a problem.
