I've received a copy of a press release announcing various cooperative efforts
between Apple and Kodak. If you leave out the PRese, here's what it appears
they intend to do:

* Apple will add support to QuickTime to allow access to images stored in
Kodak's Photo CD format. Photo CD is a method for storing photographic-quality
images on write-once CD-ROMs. It can also be a multimedia format, apparently,
with sound and interactive branching capabilities ("Photo CD Portfolio"). There
are also versions targeted at professional photographic and medical imaging
applications.

* Apple has bought colour electrophotographic printing technology from Kodak.
This should be appearing in future printers from Apple.

* Kodak will be using Macintoshes in its "retail imaging workstations", where
you can go to create your own Photo CD Portfolio discs.

* Kodak has announced its "Professional Image Library". This uses a Photo CD
jukebox hooked to a Mac, with retrieval software, to give you access to a huge
on-line library of digital images. Then there's something called the "Kodak
Picture Exchange" (KPX), which appears to be some kind of on-line network for
connecting to imaging services.

The press release says "Plans are currently being prepared for the introduction
of selected elements [to the NZ market] in mid 1993." If you want more info,
here are the people to contact in NZ:
