disaster-response and urban-search-and-rescue teams to New Zealand

a 6.3-magnitude earthquake that rocked the country Tuesday. They will
be
greeted there by Timothy W. Manning, a deputy administrator at the
Federal
Emergency Management Agency who is in the country assisting with
response
efforts and is particularly qualified to do so.
Manzullo left site of quake hours before it hit
U.S. Rep. Don Manzullo, R-Ill., left the city of Christchurch, New
Zealand,
less than 2 1/2 hours before the earthquake struck.
Manzullo, who represents northwest Illinois, including East Dubuque
and
Galena, was leading a trade mission in New Zealand as chairman of the
House
Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. He represented
the
country at a forum between the United States and New Zealand in
Christchurch
on Monday, leaving the city around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday bound for
Wellington.
The earthquake struck just before 1 p.m.
